Ponderosas, Oaks, and Sage
Ponderosa and autumn Gambel oak trees below Mount Sneffels in Colorado's San Juan Mountains.
REASON FOR REJECTION: The ponderosa trees in the middle all look a bit too monolithic (like a sea of undifferentiated green). One ponderosa also almost touches the gray scree field in the background. The scree field just looks like a big blob of empty space, not adding much at all to the background except for a visual distraction. This is an example of a scene I loved in the field so I processed it but then realized that it has all sorts of flaws. If only I had the shaft of rain from the previous photo to separate the trees and obscure the background! Photo © copyright by Sarah Marino and Ron Coscorrosa.
