Aspens, Oaks, and Cottonwoods
Autumnal aspen trees, Gambel oaks, and cottonwood trees in the Cimarron Mountains in Colorado.
REASON FOR REJECTION: This hillside likely burned in the Gold Mountain Fire so I have some emotional attachment to the scene and wanted to include it for that reason. The composition doesn't feel like enough though. In the field, I liked the mound of aspens contrasting with the diagonal line of silver oaks. Now, it doesn't feel like these two ideas come together into a cohesive message. I also darkened the top to help the aspen mound stand out and think I went too far, as the darkness looks unnatural.
