Aspens and Conifers, Southwestern Colorado
Colorful aspen and conifer trees mix together on a steep mountainside in southwestern Colorado.
REASON FOR REJECTION: I like the mix of diagonal layers, emphasized by the direct light hitting the middle of the scene. Once I saw the bare hillside in the right middle, it caught my attention every single time I looked at the photo since and I came to find it very visually unappealing (an example of visual weight - it is a small part of the scene but has a big negative impact once you notice it). The aspens in the lower right are starting to turn a muddy reddish color and that patch of color is distracting from the rest of the scene because it is inconsistent (and kind of unappealing).
