Birches and Frost-Covered Grasses
A subalpine meadow dotted with autumnal dwarf birches and frost-covered grasses in southwestern Colorado.
REASON FOR REJECTION: I like the idea of this photo but the frost covering the grasses along the upper edge pulls too much attention because it is so much brighter compared to the rest of the frame. I could have continued working on the color, contrast, and exposure but decided I had other similar photos that ended up working better. There also is not enough of a cohesive line or pattern to draw the eye through the frame. A bit earlier in the season might have worked better, too. I'm not sure that the mix of some color and a bunch of bare branches works in the first place. Photo © copyright by Sarah Marino and Ron Coscorrosa.
