Last Chance
Here, a salmon releases milt (fish semen) as it is caught by a black bear. In some ways, this is a sad end for a salmon that has returned all the way to its birthplace to spawn. When caught by a predator like this bear, the salmon sometimes will immediately release their eggs or milt. With the number of salmon swimming in this creek, it seems possible that this milt could fertilize some eggs—a last ditch biological response that has a tiny chance of resulting in baby salmon.
