Meeting Place

Coastal landscapes are the meeting place for land and sea. Sometimes, this transition happens abruptly, with a trail through a quiet forest ending at the precipice of dramatically sculpted cliffs with crashing waves below. It is exhilarating to reach such viewpoints, especially when the strong waves reverberate through the ground you are standing on, creating a physically intense connection with the landscape. In other places, the transition is gentle, often with an expanse of sand quietly slipping into the sea. For photography, my favorite places often fall in the middle of these two extremes, where accessible tidal zones offer access to beds of colorful marine algae and eroded rocks form tide pools to create habitat for a range of fascinating creatures.
