Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is located in the Colorado Desert in southern California. We have spent a lot of time in this park but I still have a hard time wrapping my mind around its geography and find it hard to photograph as a landscape photographer. While I love the desert landscapes, their visual chaos is harder for me to organize so I often turn my attention to the park’s smaller details. With many sheltered canyons and significant elevation change throughout the park, this is a perfect place to get to know desert plants including many species of cactus, wild agaves, ocotillos, blooming shrubs, deciduous trees, and dozens of species of wildflowers. On the landscape side, the park’s badlands are incredible in terms of their patterns and expansiveness. And the rocks in some of the canyons… They are just wildly beautiful with all their chaotic twists and turns.
